Replacing the front differential side seals

1. Illustrative material on replacing the side seals of the front differential is presented in the illustrations, to which all references in the text refer.

2. Remove the front wheels.

3. Drain the oil from the front differential.

4. Using a puller, press the ball joint out of the upper wishbone of the front suspension.

5. Using a lever, release the drive shaft from the differential by rotating the steering knuckle assembly outward - be careful not to damage the shield.



6. Using a pry bar, remove the seal (14a) from its seat in the differential housing and, using a suitable mandrel (094), install a new one in its place, having first lubricated its lips with universal hypoid oil SAE 85 W-90.

7. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling the components - do not forget to replace the retaining ring of the drive shaft in the differential, and finally check the differential for signs of developing leaks.

1. Illustrative material on replacing the side seals of the rear differential is presented in the illustration, to which all references in the text refer.

2. Remove the rear drive shaft (37).

3. Remove the oil seal (32a/32b) from its seat and, using a suitable mandrel (094), install a new one in its place, having first lubricated its lips with universal hypoid oil SAE 85 W-90.

4. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling the components - do not forget to replace the retaining ring of the drive shaft in the differential, and finally check the differential for signs of developing leaks.
