Gasoline models manufactured up to 30.11.00
Measuring oil consumption on petrol models from 11/30/00
087 — HHT
094 - Multiplex cable
X11 / 4 - Diagnostic connector DLC
1. The measurement is made with a hand tester (HHT). The inspection should only be done with the engine fresh with oil and a new full flow oil filter installed to avoid errors due to fuel intrusion into the oil.
Note. There is no need to change the engine oil / oil filter if the mileage since the last regular change is less than 1000 km.
2. Carefully inspect the power unit for signs of external oil leaks, if necessary, eliminate the cause of the development of leaks.
3. If the check is carried out by specialists of the Mercedes-Benz branded service station, the value of the control mileage is 250 km (personnel must first be familiar with the operating conditions of the car and the driving style of the owner). Alternatively, the measurement can be done by the owner himself with a control run of 1000 km.
4. Strictly adhering to the manufacturer's instructions, connect to the DLC diagnostic connector (Х11/4) car handheld HHT tester (087).
5. To take readings, go to the subsection «Actual values» section «Active service system since last oil change» tester menu.
Attention! The value indicating oil consumption per 100 km of run in menu item 05 must not be used in the calculations!
6. From menu item 02, read the value corresponding to the amount of oil filled during the last change, for example, 6.3 liters.
7. From point 05, determine the actual amount of oil at the time of measurement, for example, 5.9 liters.
8. The amount of oil added to the engine recently can be determined from menu item 04, - this value must be added when calculating.
9. From menu item 01, read the indication corresponding to the mileage since the last oil change, for example, 1146 km.
10. The calculation is made according to the formula:
Oil consumption = (difference in liters x 1000) /mileage = = (6.3 – 5.9) x1000/1146 = 400/1146 = 0.35 l/1000 km
11. Based on the result obtained, make a timely adjustment of the oil level, or perform the necessary remedial repairs.
Petrol models from 01.12.00 and diesel models
1. The measurement is made using the STAR-DIAGNOSIS scanner reader. The test conditions are similar to those stated above for petrol models of production up to 30.11.00.
2. The procedure for connecting the reader is described in Chapter Engine Electrical Systems.
Note. You must first clear the memory of the on-board self-diagnosis module from the DTCs stored in it (if there are any) (see chapter Engine Electrical Systems).
3. Readings are best done at the same point in the area where the last oil change was made (start point of the control run).
4. Open subsection «KI (instrument cluster)» section «Body» menu of the main groups of the reader.
5. Next, go to the item «Driven travel distance since last oil change» subsection «Active service system since last oil change» section «Active values» and determine the exact value of the control run, for example, 1123 km.
6. Out of paragraph «Quantity of oil added during oil change» count the amount filled during the last oil change, for example, 6.3 liters.
7. The actual amount of oil present in the engine can be read from «Last and second last detected oil quantity in engine with engine operation». Let, for example, 5.6 liters.
8. Next, according to the formula Oil consumption = (difference in liters x 1000) / mileage = (6.3–5.9) x1000/1146 = 400/1146 = 0.35 l/1000 km, determine the oil consumption: 0.7x1000/1123 = 0.62 l/1000 km.
