Attention! Before servicing the components of the on-board electrical equipment systems, read the safety regulations for working with electrical devices!
The vehicle is equipped with a 12-volt on-board power supply system with negative grounding. Power is supplied to lighting fixtures and other consumers from a lead-acid battery, which is recharged by an alternator.
This Chapter describes the repair and maintenance procedures for electrical components installed on the vehicle that are not directly related to engine operation. Information on servicing such components as the battery, ignition components, alternator, and starter is provided in Chapter Engine electrical systems, dedicated to engine electrical systems.
Before servicing on-board electrical components, to avoid electrical shock or fire from a short circuit, disconnect the negative battery cable. Regularly check the condition of the wiring harnesses and the reliability of their fastening in intermediate clamps, clamps and strapping. Make sure that the insulation of the wires does not rub against adjacent components.
Warning! The models of vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS). Before performing any work near the air bag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Section Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS)), - the SRS circuit wiring is easily distinguished by the yellow color of the insulation!
If your car stereo is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery without using a booster battery!
