Checking the pressure characteristic of the steering pump (petrol models)
2 - Expansion hose of the pressure line; 3 - Transition line; 4 - Connecting nipple; 5 - Pressure gauge; 6 - Shut-off valve
1. Remove the air intake (1).
2. Pump out the fluid from the power steering reservoir (7).
3. Disconnect the expansion hose (2) from the steering pump - be prepared to collect any spilled fluid and connect the adapter line (3) instead.
4. Connect the fitting (4) to the expansion hose (2).
5. Connect the pressure gauge (5) to the transition line (3).
6. Between the pressure gauge (5) and the connecting nipple (4), turn on the shut-off valve (6).
7. Make sure that the connected components do not come into contact with moving components in the engine compartment. Check the reliability of the nipple connections.
8. Fill the steering pump reservoir (7) with the required amount of fluid (to normal level) hydraulic fluid.
9. Start the engine and increase its speed to approximately 1000 rpm.
10. Close the shut-off valve (6) and read the pressure gauge.
Attention! Try to perform the necessary procedures as quickly as possible to avoid overheating the liquid temperature!
11. Stop the engine, pump out the fluid from the reservoir (7) and disconnect the measuring equipment.
12. Restore the original connection of all lines, adjust the fluid level in the power steering reservoir (see Chapter Routine care and maintenance), then remove air from the hydraulic system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
13. Check the fittings for signs of developing leaks, tighten the nuts if necessary.
14. Install the air intake (1) in place.
Diesel models
Checking the pressure characteristic of the steering pump (diesel models with M612 engine)
7 - Power steering reservoir; 8 - Expansion hose of the pressure line; 9 - Connecting nipple; 10 - Transition line; 11 - Pressure gauge; 12 - Shut-off valve
Preparation for testing the pressure characteristic of the steering pump on diesel models with the M628 engine (1 of 2)
1 - Air purifier; 2 - Lid; 3, 4 - Screws

Preparing to check the pressure characteristic of the steering pump on diesel models with the M628 engine (2 of 2)
6 - Screw; 7 - Power steering reservoir; 8 - Expansion hose of the pressure line
Checking the pressure characteristic of the steering pump (diesel models with M628 engine)
7 - Power steering reservoir; 8 - Expansion hose of the pressure line; 10 - Transition line; 11 - Pressure gauge; 12 - Shut-off valve
1. Remove the cylinder head cover trim panel/air cleaner.
2. Connect the measuring equipment - the test procedure is similar to that described above for petrol models.
