Clutch — removal (Mercedes-Benz A-Class W168)

0
Cars with a 1.4/1.6 litre petrol engine without automatic clutch.

Removal

1. Remove the manual transmission (see the relevant chapter).

2. Lock the flywheel with a screwdriver or punch to keep it from turning when unscrewing the bolts. In workshops, a special shoe 1 is used for this purpose, which is attached to the flywheel ring gear (see illustration). Tightening the pressure plate mounting bolts (see arrows in illustration 2.2) loosen it gradually by one to one and a half turns until the disk is freely held on the bolts.

2. Lock the flywheel with a screwdriver or punch to keep it from turning when unscrewing the bolts.…

Caution! If the bolts are loosened immediately, the diaphragm spring located between the pressure plate and the flywheel may be damaged.

Please note: The illustration shows Allen-head mounting bolts.

MERCEDES A-class vehicles use Torx bolts with a multi-sided socket head.

3. Completely unscrew the mounting bolts.

Caution! Mark the position of the pressure plate on the flywheel so that it can be installed in its original position during installation.

4. Remove the pressure and driven disks.

Caution: When performing this operation, do not drop the discs, otherwise jerking and difficulties with separating the clutch may occur after assembly.

5. Wipe the flywheel with a rag.
