Removal
1. Drain the oil from the rear differential (see Chapter Routine care and maintenance).
2. Separate the cardan shaft from the connecting flange of the main gear drive pinion and tie it to the frame.
3. Loosen the nuts securing the lower shock absorber supports (7).
4. Loosen up (but don't turn it inside out) bolts (1 and 2) for fastening the diagonal rod (3) to the rear axle and to the frame.
5. Disconnect and plug the brake lines inserted into the holder (9), as well as the hydraulic line (10) of the rear differential lock drive.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector (4) on the rear differential lock actuator cylinder.
7. Disconnect from the body side and remove the rear ABS wheel sensors (see Chapter Brake and auxiliary systems).
8. Connect the sensor wiring from the bridge side.
9. Disconnect the parking brake cables from the lever and remove them through the floor panels (see Chapter Brake and auxiliary systems).
10. On models not equipped with electronic brake force distribution (EBV), disconnect the link (5) of the automatic brake pressure regulator.
11. Release the parking brake drive cables from the intermediate clamps on the longitudinal suspension arms (6).
12. Raise the vehicle so that the coil springs (8) can be removed (see Section Removal and installation front suspension springs).
13. Remove the bolt (1) securing the diagonal rod (3), then move the axle assembly back and remove it from under the vehicle.
14. Unbolt the trailing arms (6) from the bridge.
Installation
1. Bolt the longitudinal arms (6) to the bridge.
2. From the rear, place the axle assembly under the vehicle.
3. Install the springs (8) (see Section Removal and installation front suspension springs).
4. Screw in (but don't delay) bolt (1) for fastening the diagonal bar (3).
5. Lower the vehicle so that the longitudinal arms (6) can be seated in the frame.
6. After placing the rubber bushings of the levers (6) on the frame, tighten the fastening nuts.
7. Secure the parking brake cables to the clamps on the levers (6).
8. Install the shock absorbers (7) in place (see Section Removal, checking and installation rear shock absorbers).
9. Tighten the bolts (1 and 2) securing the diagonal stay (3).
10. Install the brake lines and the rear differential lock hydraulic line.
11. Connect the electrical wiring to the ABS wheel sensors and install the latter in their standard places.
12. Connect the electrical wiring (4) to the differential lock actuator cylinder.

13. On models without EBV, install the rod (5).
14. Connect the parking brake cables.
15. Connect the cardan shaft.
16. Fill the gearbox housing with oil (see Chapter Routine care and maintenance).
17. Finally, bleed the brake system and differential lock drive (see Chapters Transmission line and Brake and auxiliary systems).
18. Adjust the parking brake drive (see Chapter Brake and auxiliary systems).
