Tightening torques for threaded connections of the 716.5 series manual transmission



The 716.5 series manual transmission has modifications 716.500, 716.501, 716.502, 716.503, 716.504, 716.504, 716.505, 716.506, 716.507, 716.511 and 716.512.
  • Starter to gearbox mounting bolt - 20 Nm
  • Bolt for fastening the suspension bracket to the gearbox - 55 Nm
  • Engine mount mounting bolt - 55 Nm
  • Engine and gearbox mounting bolt - 20 Nm
  • Intermediate shaft support mounting bolt - 20 Nm
  • Filling volume - 1.8 l
  • Primary and secondary shaft bolts - 150 Nm
  • Clutch and gearbox mounting bolts - 25 Nm
  • Bolt for fastening the gear selection cable bracket to the automatic transmission — 8 Nm
  • Bolt M8 for fastening the automatic transmission torque converter - 42 Nm

Depending on the model, MERCEDES A-class cars can be equipped with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.

Gear shifting is performed via two cable pulls (see illustration 1.0).

The gearbox is removed together with the engine and only after the power unit has been removed is it disconnected from the engine, see the relevant chapter.
