Dust/Combination Filter — Replacement (Mercedes-Benz A-Class W168)

0
Contents: Removal ↡ Installation ↡ Replacing the activated carbon…↡
No special devices or tools are required.

Materials required:
  • depending on the configuration, a dust filter or a combined one.

Attention! Cars with air conditioning are equipped with a dust filter. On cars with air conditioning manufactured before 8/98 (identification number ***101993), an activated carbon filter and an additional dust filter are installed instead of a dust filter. These filters are changed after 50,000 kilometers or after 4 years of operation with a combined filter. Before this period, only the dust filter is changed. After installing the combined filter, it is replaced within the same time frame as on models originally equipped with a combined filter with air conditioning manufactured since 9/99. The procedure for replacing the dust filter, activated carbon filter and combined filter is the same, so below in the text they are not subdivided, but referred to as a filter.

Removal

1. Remove the cover over the air intake opening 1 by unscrewing the four bolts (see arrows in the illustration) and sliding it out of the upper guides. At the same time, lower the hood a little.

Attention! The replaceable filter element of the dust filter cannot be cleaned. It must be replaced with a new one.

Installation

4. Install the new replacement element into the dust filter housing. The arrow on the replacement element must face down when installing it.

Attention! Due to the fact that the activated carbon layer on the combined filter absorbs moisture, the combined cabin filter should not be installed on cars without air conditioning, because in this case the windows will fog up.

5. Install the fairing in place.

6. Replace the air intake cover.

Replacing the activated carbon filter with a combination filter

7. Remove the dust filter together with the frame.

8. Remove the activated carbon filter.

9. Install the combination filter. The old frame is not needed for this filter.
