Cleaning
1. Remove the cap that covers the hole for the ball head towbar pin.
2. Remove the tow ball pin.
3. Examine a pin of a turnbuckle with a spherical head 1 and a hole 2 fastenings of a pin. If the hole is dirty, clean it with a steam generator and dry it with compressed air. Clean the towbar pin itself with a brush under running water and wipe it dry with a rag (see illustration).
Attention! The towbar pin must not be cleaned under the water jet from the steam generator or with solvents such as washing gasoline.
4. Measure the diameter of the ball head 3 of the towbar. If the head diameter is less than 49 mm, then the tow bar must be replaced (see illustration).
Examination
5. Inspect the towbar and make sure that there are no mechanical damages on it.
6. Pull the handwheel and set it to the position «rot» (red), to lock the handwheel.
7. Insert the towbar pin into the receiving hole until the pin is automatically locked into the hole.
Attention! In this case, the green mark on the handwheel must coincide with the white mark on the finger.
8. Lock the handwheel. In this position, it should not move outward and not come out.
Lubricant
9. Lubricate the lock with liquid gear oil.
10. Lubricate the shaft 4 of the handwheel in the section between the handwheel and the pin, as well as the locking latch 5 with clean engine oil (see illustration).
11. Apply a light coat of lubricant to the following parts:
- 6 - on the guide of the spherical pin and balls;
- 7 - on the fixed surface of the finger;
- 8 - on the guide surface of the finger (see illustration 32.10).
12. Apply a light coat of grease or multipurpose grease to the surface of the ball stud bore 2, indicated by the arrows (see illustration).
