Checking and increasing the electrolyte level
The amount of electrolyte in a battery installed as standard at the factory is usually sufficient for the entire life of the battery. The battery, along with the main fuse box, is located under the footwell on the passenger side.
1. Unscrew plug 3 if the electrolyte level in one of the cells has fallen below mark-1 (MIN) (see illustration).
Attention! Do not expose the battery to naked flames. Possible explosion!
2. Fill each well up to the 2 mark (MAX) distilled water. The electrolyte level should be about 5 mm above the lead plates (see illustration 35.1).
3. Screw in and tighten the plugs. Before doing this, check the sealing rings on the plugs and, if damaged, replace them with new ones.
4. Charge the battery, see relevant chapter.
