Replacing hood hinges (Mercedes-Benz M-Class W163)

1. The details of the installation of the bonnet hinge strips are shown in the illustrations to which all references in the text refer.

2. If both hinges need to be replaced, remove the hood (see Section Removal, installation and adjustment of the hood), if there is one, open it and fix it in a vertical position.

3. Remove the air intake cover (see Section Removal the front wiper drive).

4. Remove the rubber hinge cover - the covers must be replaced without fail.

5. Cut the seal around the hinge in such a way as to ensure free movement of the latter - the seals must be replaced without fail, and the seal must be painted during installation.



6. Mark the position of the hinge strips.

7. Remove the gas-filled strut (see Section Removal and installation a gas-filled bonnet locking stop in the open position).

8. Unscrew the fastening screws (1) and remove the nuts (3).

9. Remove the hinge assembly (2).

10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order - make sure that the hinge strips are installed in accordance with the markings applied during dismantling.

11. Check the correct position of the hood, if necessary, make the appropriate adjustment (see Section Removal, installation and adjustment of the hood).
