Identifying and troubleshooting windshield wiper problems (Mercedes-Benz A-Class W168)

Poor glass cleaning quality. Smudges, smears



The rubber band is dirty

Clean the rubber band with a hard nylon brush and detergent or alcohol.

Fringe on the working surface of the rubber belt. The belt is torn or worn out

Replace the rubber band.

Aging rubber band. Cracked surface

Replace the rubber band.

The remaining water in the cleaning zone is collected into beads



The glass is oily or contaminated with polish

Clean the glass with a clean cloth and a silicone-based grease and oil stain remover.

The brush works one-sidedly. It cleans one half of the cleaning zone well, and the other half poorly. The brush vibrates during operation



Deformation of the rubber band. The working surface of the band does not turn to the other edge

Install a new rubber band.

The brush lever is displaced. The brush is not properly secured in the guides

Correct the position of the brush lever.

There are still some uncleaned places left



The rubber band has come out of the mount

Carefully feed the tape into the holder and secure.

The rubber band does not fit evenly to the glass because the holders are bent

Replace the rubber band. This malfunction usually occurs when the replacement brush is installed improperly.

Lubricate the lever pivots and springs or install a new lever.
