Possible malfunctions of the heating system, their causes and methods of elimination (Mercedes-Benz A-Class W168)

The fan is not working



Blown fan motor fuse

Check the fuse, replace if necessary.

The fan switch is faulty

Remove the switch and check it. Replace if necessary.

The fan motor is faulty

Check if voltage is supplied to the fan motor with the ignition on and the fan switch on. To do this, the fan motor and fan speed controller must be removed. If voltage is supplied, replace the motor.

Low blower air temperature



Low coolant level

Check the coolant level in the expansion tank. Top up if necessary.

The dust filter is clogged

Replace the dust filter.

The movement of the air distribution flaps is difficult

Check the rods. Replace them if necessary.

The heater radiator is leaky or clogged

Replace the heater radiator.

The heater fan does not work in one of the modes



Additional resistance defect (speed controller) fan

Replace the regulator.

Noises in the fan



Getting dirt, leaves

Remove and clean the fan, clean the air duct.

Fan impeller imbalance, defective bearing

Remove the fan and check it for ease of movement.

A sickly smell in the cabin. When the heater is turned on, the windows fog up



Leaking heater radiator

Have the radiator pressure tested at a workshop. If there is a coolant leak from the heater radiator, replace it.
